Harris Campaign Releases New Ad Targeting Latinos, Spotlighting Former U.S. Capitol Police Sergeant

“Real Heroes” Will Air Across Battlegrounds as Part of Latino Engagement Efforts in Final Stretch of Campaign

Sergeant Gonell: “I defended the Capitol on January 6th. But now we all must defend democracy with our vote.”

Undecided Latino Voters Highly Concerned and Motivated Against Trump and January 6 Attacks on American Democracy

Today, the Harris-Walz campaign is launching “Real Heroes,” a new ad in both English and Spanish, part of the campaign’s aggressive efforts to earn Latinos’ votes. The ad highlights Donald Trump's failure to take his oath to defend the Constitution seriously, and features former Capitol Police Sergeant Aquilino Gonell slamming Trump for calling January 6 insurrectionists “warriors” while actively insulting those who defended the Capitol.

The ad reminds Latino voters of Trump’s repeated and disturbing rhetoric praising the events of January 6 and attacking America’s democratic institutions. When asked about the horrific events of January 6 by an undecided Latino former Republican during his Univision town hall last week, Trump described January 6th as a “day of love” with “nothing done wrong at all.” Yesterday, at his Latino roundtable, Trump said he will have “extreme power” if he wins a second term and that “we may never have an election again” if he loses.

Polling continues to show that emphasizing the events of January 6th and Trump's assault on Americans’ free and fair elections is among the most persuasive messages to them as a reason to vote for Vice President Harris.

This blitz is part of the Harris campaign’s $370 million investment in TV, radio, and digital reservations until Election Day. “Real Heroes” will air across the battlegrounds in markets that reach Latino voters and and will have an emphasis on high-viewership events and shows, including Major League Baseball World Series coverage, soccer matches, Fox Deportes, Univision, and Telemundo.

Sergeant Aquilino Gonell: Donald Trump calls them warriors.

And those of us who defended the Capitol, he insults us.

And that's the difference.

The oath that we took to defend our democracy, we take seriously.

He does not.

I defended the Capitol on January 6th.

But now we all must defend democracy with our vote.

Vice President Harris: I’m Kamala Harris and I approve this message.
